“I secretly love it when someone’s laughter is funnier than the joke.” – John Houseman
June Comedy Around the Area
Our main company performs two shows every Friday and Saturday night at our theater:
TheatreSports (Fridays, June 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th) Two teams of performers face off through fast-paced comedy improv. Audience members fuel the show by yelling out suggestions and participating onstage, so no two shows are alike. It’s appropriate for all ages and is a sure-fire way to have a fun night out.
Double Feature (Fridays, June 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th) Atlas takes you to the movies with a long-form Double Feature. Action! Adventure! Romance! Trailers! We’ve got the whole cinematic package, not to mention one free concession with the price of your ticket! We’ll see you at the movies!
The Showcase (Saturdays, 3rd, 10th, 1th, 24th) Our highly-trained improvisers bring long-form improv to the stage in The Showcase. Featuring two exciting formats, we bring Madison something new from the frontiers of improv comedy. Check out our Weaves, Armandos, La Rondes, Shakespeares, and more in this always fantastic show.
Unplugged (Second Thursday June 8th) Atlas Unplugged is our late-night (for a weeknight, anyway) improv show with no stage lights, no music, and all service. On the second Thursday of the month, join us for our a variety of formats from improvised sketch comedy, character explorations and story breakdowns, to anything you can imagine. It’s just house lights, us and you, and a bus-load of laughs. And all for just 2 bucks.
Brings it’s live improv shows to the Glass Nickel Pizza Company basement stage at 2916 Atwood Avenue every Tuesday and Saturday:
King of the House on Tuesdays, 7:00-8:30PM (June 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th). Features our hottest up-and-coming student improvisers. Two teams will have 30 minutes each to improvise in whatever style they like. At the end of the night you, the audience, decides which team gets to come back the following week to take on a different team!
All Ages Show on Saturdays, 5:30-6:30PM in June (3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th). This one-hour show is packed with fast-paced, classic, short-form improv comedy! Audience participation is guaranteed and the content is appropriate for kids, as well as grown-ups who appreciate smart, clean comedy.
Grown-Up Show on Saturdays, 8-9:30PM in June (3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th). This show is for those who like their comedy a little bit saucy, and features two acts of hilarious improv comedy complete with an intermission. Content is usually rated “PG-13” with an occasional dip into rated “R” humor.
Imprompt2 on Saturday, June 3rd, 10:30-11:55PM. Two of our best improvisers take the stage and perform an entire show without a break. Watch as they play multiple characters and juggle story-lines throughout the night.
The Merge Saturday, June 17th, 2017 at 10:30-11:55PM. Stand-up and improv comedy are longtime rivals, but they have more in common with each other than practitioners from either side would like to admit. “The Merge” blends quick-witted club stand-up comedians with Monkey Business Institute’s cast of professional improvisers to create a show that gives comedy aficionados the best of both worlds.
The Music Department Saturday, June 24th, 2017 at 10:30-11:55PM. Monkey Business Institute is proud to present The Music Department. Each week, we create a fully improvised Broadway musical. We start with your suggestion and go from there. Look for big musical numbers, crazy characters, and outrageous dancing!
Biff! Bang! Ka-Pow! The Super Power Show Saturday, June 10th, 2017 at 10:30-11:30PM. Our Brand New Show is a cross between a superhero movie and a comic book! We’ll tell a compelling superhero story while showing you the action and powers in comic-book-style tableau on stage. As a bonus, several lucky audience members will have chance to draw a comic panel to help us create the show!
Level Six: Class Performance (Monday, June 12th, 2017 – 7-9:00PM) at The Vault (Not at Glass Nickel Pizza). See our most advanced improv students strut their stuff! Starring: Todd Dale, Peggy Hurley, Claire Kannapell, Ben Seidensticker, and Paula Sherman. Please note – Again, this show is held at The Vault, not the Glass Nickel.
Yes Ma’am Friday, June 16th 8-9:00PM. It’s new. It’s hilarious. It’s ‘Yes Ma’am’ – An Improv Lab show created and performed by the Women of Monkey Business!
