Madison’s near-eastside has SASY Wil-Mar. That refers to the neighborhoods south of E Wash and north of Lake Monona: Schenk-Atwood-Starkweather-Yahara (SASY) and Williamson-Marquette (Wil-Mar). These neighborhoods are the home to:
- 8 or more summer festivals
- 3 comedy stages
- A dozen or so live music venues
- Restaurants featuring the best chefs in the city
- Pub food that is constantly getting local media attention
- Absolutely astounding ethnic restaurants
- More than 50 eateries in all
- Almost 20 galleries
- Unique shops and boutiques – more than 30 in all
- And much, much more
Spoofing Willy Street is a tongue-in-cheek guide to the excellent restaurants, popular bars, exquisite shops and other businesses that offer various services to the Madison area in general and to these unique communities in particular.
There are other sites that offer business listings, event calendars and information about Willy Street, the Marquette and SASY neighborhoods, – Willy Street Blog, Visit Willy Street and Willy Street in Madison to name a few.
So why another one? Well, it’s simple – there is just not enough tongue-in-cheek in the world. Tongue-in-cheek keeps us from taking ourselves too seriously and it changes our perception of things. And, in a crazy world of deep divides, media madness and just plain … stuff that is wrong, I think we all need a change in perception from time to time as well as a healthy dose of the Spoof. That’s got to be a good thing.
So, we promise to do our very best to provide a place to get connected with all that the area has to offer. Check in often, see what’s happening, read a spoof or two and then come on over and enjoy.
